Blairs Britian has closed - Visit westbromblog.blogspot.com

I am sorry Blairs-Britian blog has closed.

I have moved back to the West Brom Blog title and left Blairs-Britian. I have done his for a number of reasons. Firstly Blairs-Britain was achieving very few hits compared to the old West Brom Blog, and with Tony Blairs imminent departure, a blog called Blairs Britain is time limited. Most importantly, Iain Dales blogging guide listed the old West Brom Blog as the 13th best Tory Blog, and Blairs Britain 64th.

I'm sorry for inconveniencing everyone with all the link changes to your blogroll. I wont be changing again, I promise!

New Labour PC turns on its own...

Seems like political correctness has turned on one of its masters, after Cherie Blair was investigated for 'assaulting' a child, after she playfully cuffed a 17 year old for making rabit ears behind her head.

This was spotted by New Labours very own Child Protection in Sport Unit who instantly reported it to the Strathclyde police, which resulted in SIX detective being dispatched to investigate the incident. Obviously crime in Scotland is very low.

Its ironic really that as the leading human rights QC she should join the list of teachers and child care workers etc who find themselves under police investigation after being accused of apparently trivial crimes.

Had she been prosecuted for assault, she could have faced a £2,500 fine and a five years stretch at HM's pleasure. - what a shame

40K for this!

So this logo is supposed to flag up the parties new ecologically sensitive policies. Is it graffiti or a coin scratch on a Lotto instant?

The worst thing is that this cost 40K! – Not the best use of party funds I’m sure. How long did it take Perfect Day to come up with this rubbish? And what was the need to go to the consultants when a perfectly good tree logo won the Conservative Home logo competition months ago.

The Conservatives won’t win the next election with kid’s drawings. The people are fed up with too much tax and too much government and Labour spin. I know Cameron wants to show the party has changed, but changing a decent logo to this rubbish just makes the party look stupid, and the use of 40K to come up with it, just makes the party appear image obsessed.

The ego has landed

So unsurprisingly UKIP have elected the 'old guard', former leader of the party's MEPs and sex scandal dogged Nigel Farage (and his massive ego) as their new leader.

As the leader of its MEPs, he failed to bring them together as an effective team and has appeared to have delivered little other than some impressive speeches and embarrassing cock-up’s. But despite this no one can deny that Nigel is an accomplished public performer. Yet this combined with his dictatorial management style and love of the media lime light, will probably mean that UKIP will end up increasingly looking like not just a one issue but a one man band.

Another question on Nigel’s leadership has to be his pervious dealings (if any) with the BNP. There are many rumours that he has done deals over campaign strategies and even talk of mergers.

Oh and Nigel also says that as leader he will only spend around 5 days a month in parliament. I am assuming then that he will be giving the “gravy train in which members are involved purely for their own personal gain” some of their salary back, for his reduced service. I mean he couldn’t be a hypocrite could he?

Bizarre parallels

As soon as I saw THIS news story, I immediately remember I had seen it somewhere before. In a bizarre parallel, only months ago, a similar argument was raging across the US around the same thing. Conservatives were kicking up a fuss over the number of liberal college lecturers, leading to "witchunts" with students encouraged to report on their tutors and teachers being suspended for their politics, accused of anti-Americanism, and even a call for an "academic bill of rights".

Funny how these things go around.

Lame duck to dead duck

The past 24 hours have (to my knowledge) been unprecedented in British politics. Never before have seven MPs resigned from the government on the same day over the same issue - the future of the Prime Minister.

The most telling point of the whole mess comes when you ask the question, Tom who? Who is Tom Watisname? I know him because he's my local MP, but I bet most of Joe public have no idea who he is, let alone know who or even what the other PPSs are. Yet these people have dictated the policy of the Prime Minister. When you have these nobody's dictating the Prime Ministers policy, forcing his hand, you begin to see in just how much trouble the man is in.

Tony Blair may well announce his imediateate resignation later today, I doubt it, but anything is possible in the current situation. Yet one thing I think is sure, and that is what ever date he sets out in his "timetable" will not be the date he leaves. Those who have resigned (and however many have signed all these letters) made it very clear that anything but now isn't good enough, and if yesterday is anything to go by, I don't think they will let him forget it.

UPDATE**

EXCLUSIVE - "Why i lead the rebels" - Tom Watson speaks to the Express and Star. Its not available online yet, so you will have to buy the paper if you live in the Midlands to read it.
Tom Watson has the article on his blog here.

"disloyal, discourteous and wrong" -Tom Watson resigns

I was just reading Iain Dales post, raising the good question of why Tom Watson didn't do the honorable thing and resign his post after signing the letter calling for Bliar's resignation, when I saw on the lunchtime news that he just has.

Read his resignation here. Why he needed the Cheif Whip to tell him his position as a government minister was untenable is a mystery, he should have gone straight away.

UPDATE**
Tom is not the only resignation today, a list is growing:

Khalid Mahmood PPS - Home Office
Wayne David MP - PPS to Adam Ingram
Ian Lucas MP - PPS to Bill Rammell
Mark Tami MP - PPS to Dawn Primarolo
David Wright MP - PPS to John Hutton
Chris Mole MP - PPS to Phil Woolas
Sky News sources are also reporting that another Minister is about to resign - i wonder who?

Going! Going! ...... Going soon

So my local MP is just the latest to jump on the "Go Now!" bandwagon. The Sun is reporting that Tony will be leaving on May 31st next year. Bollocks! The fact that Watson still holds his ministerial position shows Blairs diminishing authority, its draining away by the hour. My guess is that Blair will be gone sooner than that, probably much sooner.
Blair wanted his place in history, he got it. Making one of the biggest political mistakes in history - announcing your resignation before you were elected.

Crikey! Steve Irwin

Im sure everyone else like me was shocked and saddened at the tragic news of Steve Irwin's, aka " the crocodile hunter",death this morning. Steve was a committed environmentalist as well as a great entertainer.

It is so ironic that a man who cheated death so often, should be killed by an animal described as the "pussycat of the sea" - in only the third recorded death by stingray in Australia.

He leaves behind his wife Terri and two children, Bindi and Bob
